Prior to drifting towards mid range with the launch of Itel S41, Itel was notorious for entry level phones. You might want to see entry level smartphones phased out; after all, who still uses a 512MB RAM phone in 2019? . The fact is not everybody can afford an iPhone or Samsung. Even fewer people can now afford a Tecno or Infinix phone in the face of economic realities. This is the demographic where Itel has been meeting a need.

Some people I’ve discussed with had vowed never again to use an Itel phone. Some won’t even touch an Itel phone with a ten-foot long pole. As someone who’s used 4 Itel phones including an Itel it1513 and Itel A32F, I feel their pain. You see, over 6 years ago, people thought it was insane to create tutorials for Tecno phones. The very first stock rom collections were called MTK Backups then. Tecno phones were stigmatized back then but we anticipated the improvements that many only now see. Same with Infinix and hopefully Itel.

To unlock an EE pay monthly phone you need to ring 150 from your EE phone. If you're still under contract, a charge of £8.99 applies. If you're out of contract, however, it's free. Alternertively, remove the battery and insert it back. Connect your USB data cable on the computer and then, while holding the key above the call key, connect your phone to the USB data cable. Miracle box will read your phone and start annalysing data. Keep holding the key as data is being annaylized.
Its however sad that Tecno no longer listens to its customers. Rather, its bent on killing the user experience with their buggy HIOS and downgrades (under the guise of OTA updates).
Want to enjoy an entry level smartphone? You either be an entry level user or a lover of device problems and challenges. I happen to be the latter which is why I crave for both high end and entry level Android phones. I’ve indeed been frustrated by my Itel phones….as in the phones have shown me shege . I’ve since learnt a lot about optimizing even Android Go Edition phones , turning frustration to victory. I’ll be sharing some of these tricks with you.
I’m dedicating this to those looking to enjoy and explore the Android experience on low budget smartphones. You can tag along if you have any such entry level smartphone you wish to optimize for a better experience. I should mention that Itel now has models running on Mediatek, Spreadtrum and Qualcomm .
1. Storage space running out
Messengers might not send or receive messages until more space is available on your device. Some system functions may not work.
This is one of the first hurdles you’ll encounter once you’ve started installing apps.
What is this error and why am I getting it?
Your phone has an internal storage where apps and their data are saved to. The problem here is that its a partition which is allocated a limited space. You could have a lot of space on your external SD card but still encounter this error. The root of this error is that you’ve used up the allotted space for apps and their data.
Solution
- Adoptable Storage: This enables you use your external SD card as an extension of your internal storage. Here’s a guide on using an external SD card as Adoptable Storage
- Clearing app data: The phone needs to first be rooted then the internal storage analyzed using Link2SD . The target are apps (and their data) consuming a lot of space. I once recovered 3.72 GB from clearing just one app’s data. You should find this piece on how to free up space on Android by clearing app data
- helpful
- Move media and uninstall unneeded apps: Delete or move heavy media files saved to internal storage to external SD card. Also uninstall all unneeded apps under Settings > Apps
- Factory Reset: First, backup your important stuff. Go to Settings > Accounts and delete your Google account to avoid Factory Reset Protection (FRP) . Go to Settings > Backup & reset to wipe the phone or boot into recovery mode and do a factory reset
2. Lagging / Hanging
Slight lagging is something to expect with use but its particularly terrible on low RAM phones. This could result in frequent restarts or unfortunately **** has stopped errors.
Why is my Itel phone lagging / hanging seriously?
Well, first off, Itel wasn’t exactly notorious for being generous with RAM. Apart from the S11 Plus , Wish A41 Plus , S41, Itel phones featured either 512 MB or 1GB of RAM. The problem isn’t only the low RAM but also Bloatware which the phone ships with. The good things is there are now Itel smartphones with 2GB RAM or more.
Solution
- Debloat: First, you need to root your Itel phone then uninstall unneeded system apps using an app like Link2SD. I strongly recommend that you have a compatible packet (pac) file / stock rom / firmware for your Itel phone . A backup in custom recovery will also do just fine. This is so you can easily rollback in case the debloating exercise goes South
- Create a ROM Zero: To create a stock flashable zip , you’ll need a custom recovery, stock boot.img and system.img . If you have the Mediatek or Qualcomm firmware then you’ll find them in the zip or rar file. For Spreadtrum pac files, you can extract the content of the pac file using Research or Upgrade Download tool.
- Close apps not in use: Ensure to exit apps currently not in use
3. Overheating / Quick battery drain
Unless you’re using an Itel phone with 5,000 mAh, you’re likely to encounter a relatively short battery time. This is often facilitated by or coupled with overheating. Someone exaggerated that he could cook beans with his Itel phone 🙂 .
Why is my Itel phone overheating and battery draining so quickly
Low end / entry level phones don’t handle duress too well and overheating is one way they voice out. Its quite normal to notice your Itel phone warming up slightly while charging or using. If it gets really hot then there’s likely a hardware issue lurking in the dark. Low end phones with crappy hardware will overheat regardless of what you do but Itel isn’t exactly crappy.
Solution
- Turn off radios not in use: This includes Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Hotspotand 4G then turn them off
- Watch the apps you run: Entry level phones aren’t for gaming so don’t push them. You should also reduce the number of apps you run at a time. Check to be sure your phone isn’t infected with malware
- Reduce screen brightness: Unless you’re a Mole, your screen doesn’t have to be so bright all the time
- Pay attention to your Charger: If a particular charger makes your phone heat up then stay away from it
4. USB Connection issues
When it comes to USB connection, Spreadtrum (and by extension Itel phones) are another kettle of fish. Some of these issues also surface on Mediatek smartphones though.
What are the USB connection issues I might encounter on my Itel Android phone and how do I resolve them?
- ADB detection issues: Getting ADB to detect your Spreadtrum phone requires an additional step. This is to include your Spreadtrum Vendor ID in the adb_usb.ini file
- MTP issues: This could result in your PC being unable to detect your Phone storage and external SD card. Fixing this requires that you update your phone’s MTP drivers
- Flashing tool detection issues: Before you attempt flashing a Mediatek, Qualcomm or Spreadtrum device, you need to install drivers. The Mediatek VCOM , Qualcmm HS-USB or Spreadtrum Sciu2S drivers respectively. Unfortunately, that’s sometime not enough as you might still get errors which point at a detection (driver) error. In such a case, you’ll need to update the Mediatek, Qualcomm or Spreadtrum phone’s drivers under Device Manager
Itel has made notable improvement and I believe they hold promise. I’m watching this brand keenly and only time will prove me right or right 🙂 .
What problems have you had with your Itel phone and how did you fix it?
This guide will explain how to flash stock rom or firmware to Feature Mediatek (MTK) or Spreadtrum (SPD) phones using Miracle Box. Feature phones usually run on older chipsets so the flashing technique is slightly different.
Requirements
- Manually install Spreadtrum drivers or Mediatek drivers depending on the chipset
- Download the stock rom / firmware for your feature phone
- Download Miracle Box
Steps to flash a Feature Spreadtrum or Mediatek phone using Miracle Box
Follow the steps below to flash a feature SPD or MTK phone's stock rom using Miracle Box
See the video tutorial below or @ https://youtu.be/UI-F-U3FfXM- Right-click and launch Miracle Loader.exe
- The Miracle Box Dashboard should now be open
- Click the SPD or MTK tab (depending on the device)
- Tick Write
- Click the folder icon at the bottom
- In the Window that pops up, select the .pac or .bin file of the feature phone
- Click the Start button
- Ensure there's a charged battery in the phone and its switched off. Connect the phone to the PC via USB cord while holding the boot key. The Boot key could be the center button, left soft key or the answer key + the soft key above the answer key pressed together
- Wait till flashing is complete
Important Notice
- Miracle Box ideally requires a hardware box / dongle. Running the setup without the hardware won't work
- If you're using the loader version (no hardware box needed) then your antivirus might flag it. You are entirely responsible for the decision to heed or ignore the warning
- Avoid interrupting the flashing process as this could cause the phone to go dead
- Its best you only flash firmware for your model and backup before flashing just in case the new rom makes the device worse

Itel Phone Flashing Software
Quote:Hi! In this tutorial, I'm going to show you how to flash a Mediatek feature phone using miracle (box). If you don't have Miracle, you need to download (it) and you also need to have your phone's firmware. If you don't have the firmware, you can download on Hovatek.com under Android firmware map, requests, complaints and suggestions thread.
You can look for your phone model and download your phone's firmware. You can also get your phone's firmware by backing up from a working phone of the same model . Once you have downloaded the firmware, the firmware must be in .bin that's .bin (the format that Miracle supports) if its a feature phone. The next thing to do is open your Miracle tool I'm using the loader version.
Wait for it to finish loading once miracle has loaded go to the MTK tab, under Services. You click Write (that's write firmware). Then the next thing to do is select your phone's chipset here. If you don't know your phone's chipset you can just leave it on Auto Connect. That will automatically identify your phone's chipset. Then the next thing to do is locate your firmware by clicking this small icon here.
I've saved my firmware under this folder (files). This is the firmware folder then click on it then click the Start button. While connecting your phone, you need to press your phone's boot key because feature phones usually have a boot key that you'll have to press before connecting your phone.
The boot key might be the 0 key, it might also be the dial key, the menu key or any of these keys so if you don't know your phone's exact boot key, try any of the keys one after the other till you identify which one is your phone's boot key. The next thing to do is connect my phone, that's press the boot key and connect my phone.
I'm going to connect mine now using the USB cable. You'll have to wait for it to finish loading the firmware. I'm going to pause this video because it's (flashing) going to take some time you have to keep waiting for it. Its going to take some time before it will finish writing the firmware..it depends on your firmware's size if your firmware (size) is very heavy, its going to take a lot of time but this one is not going to take long.
See? Write OK that means my phone is flashed successfully. Thank you for watching.
