Supported Platforms

NOTE: The horizontal flip option is bugged and will likely cause crashes. Please do not use it. If you need to flip your video, either flip the sources in OBS itself, or flip on the receiving end (i.e. in Zoom, Skype, etc.)
This plugin provides a DirectShow Output as a virtual webcam.
How to use:
OBS Virtualcam has two main methods for outputting video from OBS. The first is the Preview output, which is enabled from the Tools menu. This output will provide exactly what you see in the Preview in OBS, including any changes or scenes you might switch to. This is the most common method, and probably what you would want to use.
Preview Output:
1. Select Tools -> VirtualCam in the main OBS Studio window
2. Press the Start button, then close the dialog
3. Open your program (Zoom, Hangouts, Skype, etc.) and choose OBS-Camera as your webcam
The next method is a filter that you can add to any scene or source, if you only want to output that specific scene or source, and nothing else.
Source Filter:
1. Add a VirtualCam filter to the scene/source you want to output to the virtual camera
2. Choose a camera target then press Start
3. If the button does not change to Stop, it means the camera is already in use, and you must choose a different camera or stop the other output first.
4. Open your program (Zoom, Hangouts, Skype, etc.) and choose the camera you selected as the target as your webcam
Why are the resolution and framerate sometimes not the same as my OBS output settings?
If you open an OBS-Camera device in a 3rd party application before starting the output in OBS, OBS-Camera will default to 1080p 30fps. If you start OBS first, it will use whatever is set as the Output resolution and framerate in OBS Studio's options, under Settings -> Video.
Does this plugin support other platforms?
For Linux, you can use the Video4Linux sink plugin for OBS Studio. Directions on how to configure it are available from that link. Work is underway to provide a similar plugin for macOS, but there is no ETA.
Known issues
- Skype from the Windows Store doesn't work with the OBS-Camera, please use Skype Desktop Edition instead.
- Unity can't get image from virtualcam, please useregister batch(reg_path.reg) in release page to manually add dummy device path .(note: The registry conflict with skype desktop , you can use unreg_path.reg to remove it)

Vmix Virtual Set Tutorial

vMixis a software vision mixer available for the Windows operating system and we’ll see how to use vMix for streaming. vMix is developed by StudioCoast PTY LTD. Like most vision mixing software, it allows users to switch inputs, mix audio, record outputs, and live stream cameras, video files, audio, and more, in resolutions of up to 4K. It can stream up to three destinations at one time. You can do RTMP stream with vMix and watch WebRTC from Ant Media Server.

Let’s see how to use vMix for streaming.

How to use vMix?

vMix is available for Windows only because it is using Direct3D which is exclusively available for Windows. Before learning how to use vMix, you need to install vMix on your computer. Click this link to download the trial version. Then go through installation by double-clicking the installation file.

If you want to run it on Mac, you can do that by installing Windows on a separate partition on your system. This is not running on MacOS, but this is what is suggested by the provider of vMix.

1. Provide Sources

Click the add input button and add some input for the broadcast. As an example, I will be adding a display input.

As you can see my input has been added successfully and its preview can be seen.

But you can do much more with vMix. If you add more than one input, then you can stream more than one stream at a time. Every input has its own destination, so it makes it easier to stream multiple contents with vMix.

2. Configure vMix

  • Click to the gear icon near the stream button on the bottom
  • Choosecustom RTMP Serverin destination.
  • In the URL box, type your RTMP URL without stream id. It’s likertmp://your_server_domain_name/LiveApp/
  • In the Stream key, you can write any stream id because we assume that no security option is enabled.
    • If token is enabled you need to add?token={yourtokenhere}. So it would be like{streamid}?token={yourtokenhere}

3. Tuning

You can use predefined settings but if you click to the gear button next to the quality options, you can tinker with the options.

  • Profile should bebaselineandkeyframe latencyshould be1.
    • You can set keyframe latency to 2 according to network. You can experiment this.
  • You can set yourleveland yourpresetaccording to your configuration but3.1andmedium presetis good enough for having good quality streams.
    • Presetsthat slower than medium preset puts immense load on the cpu. So, beware of that. Also you get diminishing returns from settings slower presetthan medium.
  • You can enable thehardware encoderfor using yourGPUin theencoding process.
    • Medium preset cpu encoding most probably would have better video quality but it depends on the gpu architecture that you are using. If you are using last generation gpus, your video quality would be close to the CPU’s medium preset if not better.

4. Start Streaming

After configuring the server and tuning the encoder according to your needs and, you can start the streaming by clicking the stream button at the bottom of the vMix dashboard.

As you can see from the following screenshot, it started to streaming.
